Who are We?
We are a four-generation, Illinois family farm, raising corn, soybeans and Angus cattle. Chris Miller is the primary farmer with the invaluable aid of his retired father and children.
What is “Happy Cow Beef?”
This is an old-fashioned, small family farm. Our “Happy Cows” are not raised in a feedlot environment but rather, they graze on hundreds of acres of beautiful pastures. These animals have received no antibiotics in their feed and have had no steroids or estrogen growth implants. Almost all beef you buy in grocery stores comes from large feedlots where the feed contains antibiotics and the animals receive estrogen growth implants or other type of growth stimulants. Our animals are pure, registered Angus, which is a breed well known for quality beef. Our animals are 100% free from BSE (Mad Cow Disease).
The “Happy Cow” animal you purchase will grow up in the pasture. Then, about twenty weeks before harvest, Chris will supplement its grass and hay diet with locally grown corn to finish the animal. He does this to enhance marbling in the beef and enrich the flavor.
Our beef is delicious, healthy, and generally leaner than the USDA Choice in the grocery store. We allow you to customize how your beef will be processed.
You can enjoy peace of mind when you eat “Happy Cow” beef. Your meat will not be from unknown origins. It will be free of antibiotics, growth hormones, BSE, and red dye (used to make the meat appear fresh). Our meat will never include the ammonia treated beef fillers BLBT (boneless lean beef trimings) or LFTB (lean, finely trimmed beef), commonly referred to as “pink slime”. In addition, our meat will never include the 11% sodium phosphate solution that is commonly added as a beef preservative at the meat counter.
